This project focuses on Crime Trend and Fatalities Prediction in Nigeria, where we analyzed data to gain insights and build a predictive model on crime-related fatalities.

šŸ” My Contributions: For my part, I dove into the dataset and focused on data cleaning and uncovering trends through exploratory data analysis (EDA). Here's a glimpse of the insights I uncovered:

1ļøāƒ£ Most Prevalent Political Violence:

I found that Battles and Violence against civilians are the most fatal events, with 42.8% and 37.8% of fatalities recorded, respectively. Interestingly, while protests are common, only 0.181% of protests result in fatalities, indicating most are peaceful.

2ļøāƒ£ Key Actors in Conflict:

I identified key groups responsible for the violence.

3ļøāƒ£ Trends Over Time:

There’s been a clear increase in political violence over the years, with more recorded events every year. (Data recorded until September 2024.)

4ļøāƒ£ Geographic Distribution of Conflict:

The Northern region of Nigeria, especially Borno, Kaduna, and Plateau, sees the most devastating conflicts, while Jigawa, Gombe, and Kebbi remain relatively peaceful.

5ļøāƒ£ In-depth Look at Borno State:

Focusing on Borno State, the high number of violent crimes correlates with activities of Boko Haram and other militant groups. The number of fatalities peaked in 2015 and has continued to rise since 2009.
