Phone Sales Analysis

About the project Objective: This project was created as part of Power BI Peer Group. The objective was to critically examine this data and provide key insights that would help a new distributor make informed decisions on:

  • Phone Brands: Which brands should the distributor focus on?

  • Profit Projections: What profit returns can they expect over a specific period?

  • Best Location: Which location might be the best to start this business?


Key Methods/Insights: My goal was to create a one page summary report showcasing general trends and highlighting specific areas that the new distributor should focus on for potential profit. Profit Over Time When looking at the distribution of profit across the year and month, the year 2020 had a very low amount of sales and profit, the top 3 distributors reduced their purchase, this may be due to the Covid-19 pandemic(Note: the dataset was little to detect the reason behind the low amount of sales). In early 2021, the profit and sales increased amazingly, but dipped in the last few month.

Top Performing Brands LG, Samsung, and Apple lead the market in terms of sales quantity indicating strong customer acqusition and brand loyalty. Despite lower profits, LG's higher sales volume indicates a strong market presence, which could be a key opportunity for increased profitability. Distributors should explore promotional campaigns to convert this volume into higher profits, such as bundling products or offering limited-time discounts.

Given that Apple and LG are top performers in profit, the distributor should prirotize stocking and promoting these brands. Special marketing strategies could be implemented to enhance the visibility and sales, particularly for Apple has it has a low sales and high profit.

To capitalize on the revenue potential, the distributor should consider expanding into markets where these brands have lower penetration. This could involve strategic partnership with retailers or targeted advertising campaigns.

Profit Over Time

The analysis reveals that El Salvador, Colombia, and Ireland lead in quantity sold, indicating a strong market demand in these regions, particularly in Central America and Europe. Given Colombia is the highest performer in both profit and revenue, the distributor should explore expanding operators or enhancing partnerships in this market. Understanding local consumer preferences can provide insights into increasing market share. Canada's lower profitability despite decent sales suggest a need for deeper analysis. The distributor should investigate factors affecting profitability, such as pricing strategies or market competition, and consider revising tactics to improve margins.
